Road Trip October 08

This past weekend Chris and I were able to go on a really fantastik road trip. We covered over a 1000 miles in 4 days.
We started in Kanab where we dropped the girls off with Chris's Dad. (Thanks Doug and Pam!) Then we headed on to Lake Powell where we spent our first night. We stayed at Lone Rock Beach. It was pretty windy and we couldn't get our tent set up so we decided to just sleep in the back of the truck. This was ok. It wasn't cold but the wind was nasty and we woke up to a layer of sand covering us. Very beautiful setting though.

After we finally found someplace for us to clean off all the sand, we headed to Monument Valley. That was pretty cool. We didn't stop to really take it in. We had a lot to see and not a lot of time. We then went to Natural Bridges National Park. So cool. Small park with some great views. We put it on our list of places to revisit and hike.
These are pictures of newspaper rock. There are over 300 petroglyphs on this slab of rock. For the most part no one knows what they mean. Some look like pagan symbols and weird alien looking things. It is really cool though. There are also some names of people who have passed by. Some dating back into the eighteen hundreds. Although you aren't allowed to add your own when you are there. Sorry!
These are taken in Arches National Park, one of my new favorite places to visit. The first is double arch and then there is me in front of delicate arch. This place is so beautiful I can't even tell ya!
This picture was taken in Capitol Reef National Park. We didn't spend too much time here. Although it is pretty incredible too.
There are some really amazing places to see in Utah. Around every corner is something amazing to see. I took a lot more pictures of our journey but my computer is taking forever to upload them.
We covered a lot of territory this weekend. Now we will have to go back and really explore these areas. We have a list allready of places to visit and hike. Next June we are planning on rafting from Moab to Lake Powell if anyone wants to join us!!

That looks like so much fun. I've never even been to half those places. What a good idea for a getaway. Jonathan would love it!

Beau and I would always drive by all of those places when we drove to Durango when were at school at Dixie. However, we never once stopped to take in the sites! Boring I know. Someday we will have to really go check things over. Fun road trip!
